Volkswagen Group reports increased sales revenue and sharp rise in profit
The Volkswagen Group has delivered more vehicles, increased sales revenue and recorded a sharp rise in profit in the first quarter of 2008. The Volkswagen Group delivered 1.57 million vehicles worldwide in the first three months, an increase of 7 percent. Sales revenue grew by 1.4 percent to €27.0 billion. Motorpoint, the car supermarket group, is selling new diesel cars at a rate more than 25% above the already mushrooming national trend because its pricing policy has broken down a barrier that excludes many drivers - the so-called diesel premium. Diesel engines account for majority of Mercedes models sold in 2007
Diesel engines accounted for 57 per cent of all Mercedes-Benz models registered in 2007. The figure represents an increase from last year’s proportion of 51 per cent and is way up on the 22 per cent registered in 2000. Of models in the M-Class that were registered, 94 per cent contained diesel engines in vehicles such as the ML 280 CDI, ML 320 CDI and ML 420 CDI models.
