A 10-month old Suzuki GSX-1000 K9 fitted with a TRACKER stolen vehicle recovery system, which had been parked by the owner outside his workplace in Central London, was stolen and loaded into the back of a van and driven off. Unbeknown to the thieves, not only was the crime caught on CCTV, but they also triggered the motion sensor which informed TRACKER of the unsolicited movement. With the help of the police, it wasn’t long before the owner, 34 year old Edgar Montez from Clapham Common, South London, was reunited with his bike.

TRACKER stolen motorcycle recovery systems work like an electronic homing device. A covert transmitter is hidden in one of several places around the motorcycle. TRACKER offers the ultimate in protection as it detects when the bike is being moved without the ignition being turned on. The tracking device works even if the motorcycle is hidden in a container or transported on back of a van.

“The phone call from TRACKER completely took me by surprise,” says Mr Montez. “I had parked my bike in the bay outside work as I did every day, and the last thing I had expected was for it to have been stolen. The bike had cost over £10,000 and as I was using it to commute into London, I had the TRACKER device fitted as a precaution.

“I am so glad I bought the TRACKER device. Without it, the thieves and the bike would have long disappeared by the time I left work. I strongly recommend anyone buying a bike or a car to invest in one, as going without is not worth the financial risk.”

The Metropolitan police worked alongside TRACKER to recover the stolen vehicle. Stuart Chapman, TRACKER's Police Relationships Manager, says, “Typically with motorbike theft, it is quicker and easier for the thief to load the bike into the back of a van or trailer. They tend to drive the van right up to the motorbike, where it is quickly whipped into the back. More often than not, someone is already in the back ready to disassemble the bike.

“Unlike other GPS only based tracking units, TRACKER devices use VHF-based technology which still emits a signal even if the vehicle is put in the back of a van, which is vital for a fast recovery,” concludes Chapman.

TRACKER is the only vehicle tracking system operated by all 52 police forces in the UK, offering bike owners the ultimate in security.
