Since its launch in 2007, the Captiva SUV has become the figurehead of Chevrolet's model range. In fact, you could say it has become something of an icon - if not, then you could definitely say it has become an Ikon, for Chevrolet has just introduced an all-new special edition Captiva.

On sale now, the Captiva Ikon is based on the generously equipped LS model, meaning it gets such goodies as air conditioning, electric windows, remote locking, electrically-adjustable mirrors, a glass flip tailgate and quality CD/stereo with steering wheel mounted controls.

But on top of the standard kit, the Ikon also benefits from smart styling touches worth over £3,000, including 20-inch alloy wheels, side steps, privacy glass and a chrome exhaust tailpipe.

Powered by a choice of 2.4-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel engines, the front-wheel drive Ikon offers all of the attributes of a large SUV with none of the associated expense, making it ideal for those who have outgrown their family hatchbacks but don’t want to pay premium prices, or for those used to a larger SUV but who are looking to cut their costs without cutting back on their style.

What’s more, the Ikon is on offer at less than the equivalent LS models in the Captiva range – the 2.4 model is almost £1,000 cheaper than the petrol LS at only £15,995 on-the-road, while the 2.0-litre diesel is only £16,995 – a saving of over £1,400 against the equivalent VCDi LS.
