Motorpoint posts best sales figures for November for over three years
Motorpoint is continuing to defy the doom and gloom within UK car retailing, posting its best set of sales figures for November for over three years.
Figures for last month show sales were up 18.5% on the same time last year (and over 25% on two years ago) – buoyed by record savings on the nearly new Ford Mondeo, Saab 9-3, VW Passat and the Vauxhall Vectra.
The latter in particular has proved hugely popular with customers when Motorpoint advertised the vehicle for less than a large Cappuccino from Starbucks a day – famously selling 25 cars in as many minutes. Nearly new models dominated sales throughout November, representing 95% of total sales.
December promises to be an equally good month as smart buyers take advantage of savings of over 60% on certain models as well as extremely competitive finance rates to bring themselves some early festive cheer.
Explains David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint: “Traditionally November and December tend to be fairly quiet in car retailing. But the incredible savings we’ve been able to achieve on models such as the Saab 9-3 or the VW Passat appear to have really captured the public’s imagination, with customers treating themselves to an early present in their droves.
“And, this trend doesn’t seem to be showing any sign of slowing, with all the indications that December will be another bumper month for Motorpoint.”
Motorpoint is offering the Vauxhall Vectra 1.8i VVT Life for only £2.60 a day - less than a large cappuccino at Starbucks (£2.75).
Motorpoint has also announced it has appointed a new General Manager to help drive sales further in Scotland. The car supermarket giant arrived in Glasgow just over six years ago with a bang, turning car retailing on its head by offering customer’s savings of over 50% on models provided by other dealers in the city and surrounding area.
Since then Motorpoint has gone from strength to strength, selling in excess of 4,000 cars a year, from its five-acre site on the Hamilton Road in Mount Vernon. Last month, sales were up 30.1% on the same time last year.
Now, 42 year-old Graham Provest, has been brought in from BSkyB, where until recently he was a Divisional Manager, to roll out the Motorpoint concept across the whole of Scotland, and cement its position as the country’s leading car supermarket.
A highly-experienced senior sales manager, with high profile roles at Diageo and Guinness UDV, Graham will be responsible for overseeing a staff of over 35 people at the Motorpoint. He will also take the lead on the company’s sponsorships such as the Scottish Rocks. Motorpoint has been the team’s shirt sponsor since late summer 2008.
Says Graham: “I am absolutely delighted to have joined such a dynamic business as Motorpoint and look forward to helping turn car retailing on its head in Scotland with Motorpoint’s value for money proposition backed by a customer service second to none.
“In the current financial climate, motorists are looking for a bargain, and when it comes to making savings on new and nearly new cars, there is nowhere better in the whole of Scotland than Motorpoint. Where else, for instance, could you get a year-old VW Passat 1.9 TDI for £3.23 a day – over 20p less than a regular Big Mac Meal*”
Adds Paul Winfield, Operations Director at Motorpoint: “The arrival of Graham marks the start of another exciting chapter in the company’s development. He comes with real front line sales experience and I am confident he will put it to good use, as we look to spread the message about Motorpoint throughout the whole of Scotland.”
