Top tips for a hassle-free holiday rental
(10/07/2008)
Have your previous car rental experiences been traumatic? Do you feel like you’ve been caught out, or over-charged? Eibhlin Payne, Head of Region South at Avis Rent a Car, shares her top tips on the Avis blog (www.wetryharder.co.uk) for a hassle-free holiday rental.
* Book with a reputable company with a global presence for peace-of-mind that there is a HQ in your country of residence should you have any post-rental issues
* Always make sure that you know what is included in the rate you have booked
* Remember to allow for any extras you may need that cannot be booked in advance e.g. additional drivers
* Have all your documents ready in advance, including your driver’s license and credit card
* Decide in advance if you want to pay in sterling or local currency. In sterling you have the advantage of knowing exactly what will appear on your credit card statement, but you may get a more advantageous rate from your credit card company paying in local currency
* Think about passenger and luggage capacity when deciding on the size of vehicle you require. If you don’t want to drive around in a big car all week but your luggage won’t fit into a convertible, why not arrange a taxi to your accommodation and pick the car up later?
* Before driving the car, take a few minutes to check for scratches or dents on the bodywork, and that they are recorded on the paperwork you have been given – if not, then notify a member of staff
* Take care when driving. Be mindful of local driving customs, and don’t panic!
