Preparing for long journeys can be a stressful experience. As summer gets into fall swing, Alamo Rent A Car has surveyed customers for their secret to a stress free journey – the best start to a relaxing break.

When it comes to car journeys with the kids, most parents will do anything to keep them entertained on long journeys. Alamo asked customers for their favourite in-car games to help the holidays get off to a good start. Good old I-Spy came out as the most popular distraction to keep fidgeting children occupied, followed by video games and a sing-along.

Travel sickness can blight car journeys for children and adults alike, turning a long journey into a test of endurance. Alamo’s customers offered some stomach settling tips to aid a more pleasant journey with simply taking a break at the top of the list of cures for queasy passengers:

2. Open the window for fresh air in the car
3. Look forward
4. Sit in the front
5. Don’t read
6. Drink water
7. Take travel sickness tablets
8. Eat something
9. Suck on sweets
10. Sleep

Alamo’s survey also revealed that travellers like to do a little preparation before they head off into the sunset. 44% check the driving regulations of the country they are visiting before they go, with 28% looking on websites and getting travel tips from guide books. However, preparing to travel light is not on the radar for the 40% of respondents who said they always pack far too much for their holidays.
