Diesel engines account for majority of Mercedes models sold in 2007
(12/01/2008)
Diesel engines accounted for 57 per cent of all Mercedes-Benz models registered in 2007. The figure represents an increase from last year’s proportion of 51 per cent and is way up on the 22 per cent registered in 2000.
Of models in the M-Class that were registered, 94 per cent contained diesel engines in vehicles such as the ML 280 CDI, ML 320 CDI and ML 420 CDI models. Diesel engines were also under the bonnet of 89 per cent of E-Class registrations as well.
The most popular engines in the range were the refined, economical 220 CDI units fitted in the 16,420 C-Class, CLK Class and E-Class models.
Behind the 220 CDI was the three-litre 320 CDI with 14,485 motors taking to road in the last year.
A full complement of engines has only been available in the C-Class since Christmas and the model was only introduced in the summer yet it has still achieved impressive figures of 11,725 unites.
