Hyundai outsells Ford and Vauxhall to top UK retail sales charts in August

Hyundai sold more cars to retail customers in August than any other brand, overtaking Ford and Vauxhall. The figures, which would have seemed inconceivable a few months ago, show that Hyundai’s overall sales for the month rose 323% compared to August last year to 3,737. New car registrations fell 30.9% in January to 112,087 units. However, the diesel market share rose 0.7 percentage points to 45.6%. The new car market continued to decline sharply at the start of 2009, with volumes down by over 30%. Consumers remain concerned the general economic gloom will impact upon them directly.
