How to drive safely at night(25/07/2011)
Simon Elstow, IAM's head of training, is advising on how to drive safely at night. Elstow said: “Driving in the dark isn’t all danger and drawbacks, but remember speed is more difficult to judge in the dark, especially approach speeds, so take care. Reduction in road deaths and injuries(05/07/2011)
The latest Department for Transport statistics indicate the numbers of people killed in road deaths in 2010 fell to 1,857 – a reduction of 16 per cent on the previous year. Today's cars generate less CO2 emissions than in 2000 despite an increase of 4 million cars on the road(29/06/2011)
Total UK emissions are forecast to increase but those from cars are set to continue falling. While carbon emissions from all forms of road transport continue to rise, the rate from cars fell from 196 grams of CO2 per km in 1997 to 174 grams CO2 per km in 2008. According to Public Opinions of Speed Cameras, the latest research report from road safety charity the IAM, over half of Britain’s high-mileage drivers think that raising money is the primary aim of speed cameras, and only a quarter think that speed cameras are used at sites with a bad record of crashes and injuries. In 2009 young car drivers accounted for 27 per cent of all car driver fatalities, and 2,026 young car drivers were killed or seriously injured. According to the IAM's latest in its series of IAM Motoring Facts 2010/2011, the massive reduction in fatalities within the two most vulnerable age groups is the key finding of Younger and Older road users.
